Samie & Luke's Parkdale Wedding

When I first met Samie & Luke, I could tell right away that they were going to be a fun-loving couple to work with. Samie began our consultation by telling me about their new puppy Pepper and laughed as she showed me pictures and told me about her latest puppy-antics.

I loved that Luke joined us for the consultation. I find that grooms often opt out of this part of wedding planning. He asked lots of questions about different flowers, and it was refreshing to see that they were taking on their floral decor together, as a couple. Throughout the planning stages of their wedding, I was touched when I read an e-mail from Luke who reached out to me about a copper arbour he knew would make Samies wedding day complete. His efforts to make their day everything she had dreamed of was so very evident and heart warming to be part of.

For her bouquet, Samie knew she wanted to go with neutral colours, but said she wanted to add one focal flower with a bold hue to stand out. I knew the perfect rose would be the amnesia rose. I paired the mauve blooms with some champagne coloured sahara roses, white dahlias, white majolica spray roses, white veronica, some astrantia for some whimsical texture, and hanging hellebore for a touch of romance.

When their wedding day arrived, I delivered Samies bouquets to her and her reaction was everything I could have asked for. Nothing in this line of work is better than a bride who falls in love with her bouquet at first sight! After a congratulatory hug, I was on my way to their venue in Parkdale.

The Only One Gallery is a beautiful urban venue which is unique because it is so versatile. You truly have the ability to create your own atmosphere in this industrial and exposed brick art gallery. Samie & Luke went with the modern minimalist style of the space. I designed their copper arbour with light Italian ruscus foliage and peekaboo lisianthus flowers. I draped a light mauve fabric over the structure to add a soft feminine romance to the installation.

Their table top decor was modern with lots of greenery. It included Italian ruscus garland runners, metallic geometric decor, golden candle votives, and bud vases with lisianthus and baby breath.

In the corner of the room against an exposed brick backdrop was their three tiered naked wedding cake designed by Tracy Gomes. Together Tracy and I added the fresh floral decor to the wedding cake. The flowers included the same amnesia, sahara and white majolica roses to match Samies bouquet. This cake was a showstopper!

All together this wedding was one of my favourites of the season. Not only were Samie & Luke a pleasure to work with, but their entire day and urban chic wedding style came together seamlessly. They brought elegance and minimalism to Parkdale, and they did it down the graffiti alley just off Brock Avenue. The photographs by Bows & Lavender are hands down the most unique and authentic wedding portraits I have ever seen, and they perfectly capture the style and love shared by this lovely couple.
